Ahead of Thursday January 14, 2021, Presidential and Parliamentary Elections in Uganda, the country has been enmeshed in series of political crises, which is already threatening the credibility of the elections.
Contesting the presidential election is the 76 years old incumbent President, Yoweri Museveni of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who has been ruling the country since 1986 and 38 years old Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine of National Unity Platform (NUP).
Currently trending is the assaults that Barbara Itungo, wife of Robert Kyagulanyi suffered in the hands of the men and women of Uganda Police Force, who beat, tortured and stripped her before effecting her arrest today.
She was beaten in the presence of her child, who had to fight the ruthless police personnel for beaten his Mother and was repeatedly shouting, “Leave my mummy!”.
In the video clip, a female police personnel championed the assault on the wife of the nation’s foremost politician and continually hitting her on the head.
The helpless woman in red pant courageously fought back and repeatedly told the police, “You can’t torture me”, while being pinned on the ground.
However, reactions have been trailing the ugly incident as some Africans have called on the international community to intervene before the situation degenerates to what can not be managed.
Many notable individuals, who have condemned the happenings in Uganda, further condemned both United Nations (UN) and African Union (AF), for folding their arms to watch the ugly and deadly situation unfolding in Uganda.
Former Governor of Imo State in Nigeria and Vice Presidential Aspirant, Peter Obi specifically condemned the assault on the woman as well as blaming United Nation for being careless about African continent.
He said, “And @UN have been seeing all these and keeping quiet. What is even the need of separating fight when you can’t prevent it. Why can’t the so called United Nations step in now that is still early to stop this tyrant of a president? How can you be treating your citizens like this?”
Paige Turner says, “There are devils among us , disguised as human beings, willing to disrespect and dominate, they are called Police! Doing this to a mother, in front of a child is The epitome of Fcuking evil!!”
Ogoh Samuel said “A dictator rules successfully only when his subjects are dictators at heart. In Africa ,we think only about today and not tomorrow yet no one lives forever. Money and power….we chase daily yet they will outlive us”.
Ezekiel Chidiebere said, “This is a cruel act and an abuse by those that are supposed to protect the citizens. Ño matter what this woman’s offense are these police officers are wicked and unprofessional by this video is evident.because we can see that the woman never resisted arrest but is willingly”
